Company History
Spectrum Eyecare is owned by Pam Tidey and was founded in 1991. Pam has been in Optics since 1971 originally qualifying as a Dispensing Optician and later gained her honours diploma as a Contact Lens Optician.
Eighteen months after opening in Lewes, Spectrum Eyecare won the Small Business of the Year Award for their innovative and fresh approach to Optics.
The practice was then joined by colleagues they knew and respected, who came to help out in the early busy years and as the practice grew they stayed. It was soon apparent that the ground floor was becoming too much of a squeeze and Spectrum Eyecare expanded into the two floors above the main practice.
The Present
On the 1st floor are three sunny consulting rooms, each with large external windows affording lots of natural light and fresh air. This is complemented with air conditioning, to create the optimal environment for everyone. We have maintained another consulting room on the ground floor.
Each consulting room in the practice has a full compliment of equipment for eye examinations and the fitting of contact lenses.
With our Optomap® & Retinal Imaging Camera, we can not only show you what we can see, but we can email these images to your consultant or doctor, together with any referral you may need, advancing the detection and monitoring process.
The Future
Optomap® has pushed the boundaries of the high street eye examinations to a new level. This diagnostic aid affords much more reassurance for our patients, than was possible before, within the routine eye examination.
Ortho K has proved a very successful alternative to traditional vision corrections. Using again state of the art imaging systems we can provide you with daytime corrected distance vision without the need to wear spectacles or contact lenses. Following high profile celebrities like TV presenter Philip Schofiled, you wear contact lenses only when you are asleep and remove them when you wake up. Lewes can now enjoy the benefits of having their own Ortho K centre at Spectrum Eyecare.
An area of constant change is the main showroom, with spectacle frames and lenses sourced from around the world. Under the watchful eye of Julian and Helen, they carefully select frames from Australia, Japan, America, Sweden and the UK’s bespoke frame specialist Tom Davis. As an English frame designer, he has become world renowned for his bespoke titanium metals and hand crafted plastic frames.
Spectrum Eyecare is an Acuvue Centre of Excellence and regularly attends seminars and training days and conferences to learn about the latest contact lens products and research.
All our Opticians are qualified professionals and registered with the General Optical Council and receive recognition within this organisation for continued education in the field of Optics.
Spectrum Eyecare will continue to invest in new technology and science to bring our customers a highly professional approach to eye care.
